Scottish hippie-folk group, The Incredible String Band, had a sound that was fresh and unique from the start. They broke the conventions of folk music and developed their own original sound which was current and, as can be seen on this 5 album collection, still is enjoyable.

The band was favoured by John Peel, especially with their album The 500 Spirits Or The Layers Of The Onion (1997). The album that followed, The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter (1968), was a commercial success in the UK.

The last two discs of this collection make up the ISB's 2-part fourth album, Wee Tam and The Big Huge. With organs, North African and Middle-Eastern instruments, Scottish folk and hippie influences, this eclectic double album is often considered the best thing ever created by The Incredible String Band.
